Turns out there was a little old lady living in the house. I found her in a beat up, thread bare recliner that might have been maroon once upon a time. She was watching Dr. Who and arguing with the characters on the screen.

"What the hell are you doing? Any idiot can see that you will get eaten if you go down there! You british twit!"

the stupid head of the shovel fell to the floor. I looked at the handle and noticed it was crawling with termites. They completely covered the handle and were beginning to crawl up my arms.

I completely freak out and begin flinging my arms in an attempt to get the bugs off of me. I hear a maniacal laugh come from a doorway I hadn't noticed before. The doorway was completely dark.

I had a choice to make, go back and deal with Lurch who was blocking the escape route back through this mad house or move through the darkened doorway toward the maniacal laughter.

I really had no choice...

I stepped across the threshold and groped for a switch. No go.

"Damn. Why did I quit smoking? I could really use a lighter about now." I said to my self.

The laughter continued...just a high pitched cackle. I shuffled across the floor, sweeping with my foot before stepping, toward the sound.
It was black. pitch black. so blackishly black that words cannot describe it. it was the absence of everything, except the laugh...
